I am currently the Coordinator for Art Exhibitions in Tabakalera International Centre for Contemporary Culture, in San Sebastian, Spain. I hold a BA in Philosophy, and two Masters of Arts, in Cultural Management, and in Contemporary Art History and Visual Culture. I have worked in "Donostia-San Sebastián European Capital of Culture 2016", the Cervantes Institute (Madrid), the ICO Museum (Madrid), and as editor of "INPUT Art Magazine".
SF- What do you think about the current cultural scene in Spain ?
I think it’s very active and alive. I believe that the crisis we have experienced these past years has led us to look for new ways of thinking our artistic projects, new ways of financing them and thus to be more self-sufficient, and to search tirelessly for alliances and collaborations.
SF- What kind of projects for the internationalization of our culture do you find interesting ?
Due to the logistic needed for the outsourcing of artistic initiatives, in Spain many projects are sponsored by the public sector. For instance, in the Basque Country, the Etxepare Institute offers help to creators and cultural agents to produce their projects abroad. The cultural cente, Tabakalera, also has a residency program that connects the local art scene with other creators, researchers and curators.
SF- Tell us about the creative panorama in your city.
2016 has being a very active year in San Sebastian, culturally speaking. The opening of Tabakalera in September 2015 coincided in time with the designation of San Sebastian as European Capital of Culture 2016. This has resulted in a wide and diverse cultural programme for all tastes and opinions. In September, the city hosts the renowned San Sebastian International Film Festival, but perhaps the most interesting developments are the small initiatives that arise off the beaten track , with concerts scheduled almost every weekend, markets of fanzines, self-publishing books, photobooks, informal talks with artists or openings in design studios.
Soy coordinadora de exposiciones y proyectos en el Centro Internacional de Cultura Contemporánea Tabakalera, en Donostia. Soy licenciada en Filosofía, Master en Gestión Cultural y Master en Historia del Arte Contemporáneo y Cultura Visual. Antes trabajé en Donostia-San Sebastián Capital Cultural Europea 2016, en el Instituto Cervantes y en el Museo ICO. También soy editora de la revista de arte INPUT Magazine.
SF- ¿ Cómo ves la escena cultural española ?
La escena cultural y artística actual la veo activa. Creo que el contexto de crisis que nos ha tocado vivir ha hecho que tengamos que buscar nuevas formas de hacer y de pensar nuestros proyectos y de financiarlos; todo ello pasa por ser más autosuficientes e independientes, por trabajar muchas veces en colectivo y por buscar incansablemente alianzas y colaboraciones.
SF- ¿ Qué tipo de iniciativas de externalización de nuestra cultura te parecen interesantes ?
Pienso que por la infraestructura que demandan estas iniciativas de externalización, muchas veces éstas vienen auspiciadas por el sector público. En el País Vasco, por ejemplo, el Instituto Etxepare ofrece ayudas a creadores y agentes del sector cultural para presentar sus proyectos fuera del territorio. Tabakalera también tiene un programa de residencias que conecta a la escena artística local con otros creadores, investigadores y comisarios de arte.
SF- Hablanos del panorama creativo en tu ciudad.
Sin duda alguna, 2016 está siendo un año muy activo culturalmente en Donostia. La apertura de Tabakalera en septiembre de 2015 coincidió en tiempo con la puesta en marcha de Donostia como Capitalidad europea de la cultura. Esto se está traduciendo en una muy amplia programación cultural para todos los gustos y opiniones.
El Festival Internacional de Cine de San Sebastián hace que la ciudad se vista de cine en septiembre, pero quizá lo más interesante sea las pequeñas iniciativas que surgen al margen del circuito principal, donde se programan conciertos casi cada fin de semana, donde hay mercadillos de fancines, de autoedición, fotolibros, charlas informales con artistas o aperturas de estudios de creación.
